Israeli company plans lunar landing next year

News Brief: SpaceIL, an Israeli team that was once a competitor in the now-defunct Google Lunar X Prize, says it will have its lander launched toward the moon in December. The Israeli space agency-SpaceIL- has set the date for lunar touchdown on 13 February 2019. China this year plans to land a probe on the unexplored dark side of the moon, where radio signals from Earth can't be received.

The spacecraft's design and development process, which involved intensive work of engineers, scientists and team members, began in 2013 and continued until previous year, when its construction at the IAI MABAT Plant commenced.

An Israeli non-profit affiliated with the local hi-tech and research communities is planning to launch a spacecraft to the moon as an educational endeavor.

The endeavor began, reports i24News, when Google Lunar XPrize, wanting to encourage innovation, offered a hefty sum ($30 million) for the person or company who could come up with a relatively low-priced mission to the moon.

It is measured to be four-feet high, and 6 ½-feet in diameter, and it will be able to reach a maximum speed of 22,370 miles per hour.

Tushar Arothe resigns as India women's cricket coach
Arothe, 51, was appointed last April after his predecessor, the former women's captain Purnima Rau, was sacked by the board. India will begin their World T20 campaign in the tournament opener to be held in the West Indies from November 9 to 24.

The Israeli unmanned spacecraft SpaceIL will launch by the end of this year and will head towards the Moon where it will arrive in February 2019, according to the mission's managers who held a press conference earlier today.

Two Israeli companies want to make their home nation only the fourth to ever reach the moon. Upon receipt of a command from the control room, the spacecraft will enter a higher-altitude elliptical orbit around Earth, which will reach a point near the moon. Its two-month journey will start from Cape Canaveral, Florida.

Organizers said that the spacecraft carrying the Israeli flag will take photos and videos of the landing site as well as record itself during the landing. However, the competition ended with no victor at the end of March, but the competition for the $30 million in cash prize continues, even without the cash.

A group of private Israeli companies are joining the race to return to the moon, after NASA's recent cancellation of a lunar mission and India's announcement that in October it will send a rover to look for signs of water and nuclear fuel.

It might be a privately funded mission, but SpaceIL could be a national effort looking to raise interest in space travel throughout Israel. With the help of a broad network of volunteers, SpaceIL has already made presentations to about 900,000 children nationwide.
