"I have the utmost respect for Congress's oversight role, but I truly believe that today's hearing is just another victory notch in Putin's belt and another milestone in our enemies' campaign to tear America apart", Strzok said.

He said the late-night, off-the-cuff text reflected his belief that Americans would not stomach such "horrible, disgusting behavior" by the presidential candidate.

Page had been subpoenaed to appear on Capitol Hill on Thursday, but did not comply with the order because Congress hadn't given her "sufficient time to prepare". Page will attend a closed-door interview on Friday with the committees. Tuesday that she would have access to the documents she needed for Wednesday's interview.

Strzok is attending the public hearing after he was also subpoenaed last week.
