Downton Abbey movie going into production later this summer

When you're alone and life is making you lonely, you can always go.to your TV to rewatch "Downton Abbey". There has been talk of a "Downton" theatrical release for a while now, but as of Friday, the production is officially on.

"We're thrilled to join this incredible group of filmmakers, actors and craftspeople, led by Julian Fellowes and Gareth Neame, in bringing back the world of "Downton" to the big screen". The original principal cast from the acclaimed television series have assembled to return for the feature which will begin production later this summer. Creator Julian Fellowes was just working on the script, with producers trying to find a way to get the busy and sought-after cast together.

Downton Abbey started out as a TV series which followed the wealthy Crawley family and those who served them at their country house in early 20th century England.

The film will be a Carnival Films production, with Focus Features and Universal Pictures International distributing. The movie will be directed by Brian Percival, who previously directed the series' pilot.

"Since the series ended, fans of "Downton" have always been waiting for the Crawley family's next chapter", Focus chairman Peter Kujawski said.

The official Twitter account for the series broke the news over social media to "cordially invite" fans to see the film, which will be screened in cinemas.
