Donald Trump Publishes Letter from North Korea’s Kim Jong

Trump: Kim Will Get 'Rocket Man' CD Later, Plus Surprise 'Little Gift'

North Korean officials didn't show up for a planned meeting with US counterparts to discuss returning the remains of American war dead, South Korean media reported, in the latest sign of tensions between the two sides.

The talks had been expected in the demilitarised zone on Thursday.

North Korea has reportedly proposed holding general-level military talks with the United Nations Command (UNC) over the repatriation of remains of American troops killed during the 1950-53 Korean War, sources here said Thursday.

He also agreed to repatriate remains of United States troops who died during the Korean War six decades ago.

Trump has expressed an eagerness to tout the recovery of the war dead, telling Fox News that Kim was "giving us back the remains of probably 7,500 soldiers".

President Donald Trump shows the document that he and North Korea's leader Kim Jong Un signed acknowledging the progress of the talks and pledge to keep momentum going, after their summit at the Capella Hotel on Sentosa island in Singapore, June 12, 2018.

Case in point: On Thursday, the USA president posted a letter from the North Korean dictator as evidence that "great progress" was being made between the two countries.

The North Korea U.N. mission did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the US accusation.

The Trump administration has insisted that progress is being made.

In December, the UN Security Council limited such exports to North Korea to 500,000 barrels a year.

It had been expected at the inter-Korean truce village of Panmunjom.

In addition, Donald Trump inadvertently has created "audience costs" for the DPRK leader in the sense that this isolated young leader clearly enjoys the world stage and summits with his American, Chinese and South Korean counterparts. The meeting was later rescheduled for July 15, according to South Korean officials.

On June 23, the U.S. Forces Korea said that it had moved 100 wooden "temporary transit cases" to the border to prepare for the remains' delivery. He also told supporters in Nevada that North Korea had already handed over 200 sets of remains.

"This step will build trust & confidence btw US & DPRK", he tweeted on Monday, using the acronym for North Korea's official name. That is part of the cost of doing business with North Korea.

Trump posted the letter, dated July 6, to Twitter on Thursday.

The transfer of remains between North Korea and the United States has not taken place since 2005.

Some remains have been returned to the US over the years, but very few since recovery efforts were mostly halted in 2005 as U.S.
