Chelsea confirm Antonio Conte's sacking with terse statement

Alvaro Morata Chelsea F.C. Premier League

If reports in the Italian media are to be believed, Chelsea have gone the petty route by refusing to pay Antonio Conte his compensation after sacking him as the manager of the club.

Chelsea's players have returned to pre-season training at the club's base and will soon be introduced to their new manager as Conte departed the club yesterday afternoon.

A deal to appoint former Napoli boss Maurizio Sarri as his replacement edge closer, while the talks with Conte's camp to finalize the terms of his exit and compensation package remained locked.

"Chelsea Football Club and Antonio Conte have parted company", the statement read.

Chelsea FC finished in fifth spot in the Premier League table last season to miss out on a Champions League spot.

"I wish you every success in the future", he wrote.

Chelsea have confirmed that they have sacked manager Antonio Conte, though they face the prospect of a prolonged legal battle with the former Juventus boss.

The Italian's main gripe for the past year was Chelsea's failure to land the signings he really wanted for its Premier League title defense.

The Italian has taken most of his backroom staff with him with only Paolo Bertelli, Carlo Cudicini and goalkeeping coach, Gianluca Spinelli, considering staying at Chelsea for the coming season.

It is expected that Chelsea will formally unveil Sarri as their new manager in the very near future.

Conte is due a reported £9 million if he remains out of work for the season and with the major jobs such as Real Madrid and the Italy national post - which he occupied for two years till after Euro 2016 - filled it is likely he will sit the year out.

Current Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas also expressed his gratitude to Conte, whose FA Cup win in May does not appear to have been sufficient to keep him in the hotseat.
