Barcelona confirm €35.9m Clement Lenglet capture from Sevilla

Barcelona have confirmed the signing of French defender Clement Lenglet from Sevilla.

Lenglet, 23, departs Sevilla after two seasons having become a key player at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium-he made 35 La Liga appearances last term.

Sevilla initially signed the French player in January 2017 from Nancy on a four-year deal.

La Blaugrana paid Lenglet's full €35m release clause after failing to negotiate a lower fee for the France global.

Super typhoon Maria wreaked havoc along China's southeast coast, after making landfall in Fujian Province on Wednesday morning. The typhoon could cause billions of dollars of damage on one of the most densely populated coastlines in the world.

Manchester United were also credited with an interest in the defender but Barca's long-standing interest and the efforts of previous sporting director Robert Fernandez helped swing the deal in the Blaugrana's favour.

The Rojiblancos were ultimately forced to back down as the centre-back failed to find an agreement over a new contract, though they were adamant that Barca would pay his release clause. He has played for France at Under-21 level but has never been called up to the first team.

Manager Ernesto Valverde will likely use France youth worldwide Lenglet alongside Thomas Vermaelen as back-ups for starting centre-back duo Gerard Pique and Samuel Umtiti.

Spanish giants FC Barcelona have already signed one player ahead of the 2018/19 season, but has a second acquisition of theirs now been revealed?
