UK Labour leader Corbyn blasts PM May over Brexit struggles

The Brexit shockwave that just confirmed the British establishment’s worst fears

He said: "We've now got two propositions, we've got the Labour proposition which I think has the majority support in Parliament, and the Prime Minister's new proposition, let's put it to a vote".

Arch-Brexiteer Jacob Rees-Mogg said he did not believe there would be a vote of confidence in Mrs May by Tory MPs, but called on her to change her Brexit stance as he attacked the Cabinet deal on European Union withdrawal hammered out at a summit at Chequers last week.

Corbyn said it is clear that "this government is not capable of securing a deal to protect the economy, jobs and living standards", and that it "cannot secure a good deal for Britain".

Johnson resigned as foreign secretary in protest at May's Brexit trade deal which proposes that the United Kingdom continues to follow European Union regulations in return for a free trade agreement.

"We will obviously examine the details of this alleged agreement within the Cabinet".

Jeremy Corbyn said he would like a General Election if Theresa May failed to get a deal through Parliament.

Labour seemed to have backtracked slightly on its talk of a second referendum recently.

While he said Labour was not calling for a "people's vote" on the deal, he said, "the sensible thing is to keep all our options on the table".

He told BBC One's Andrew Marr Show: "I'm afraid it's got fudge written all over it".

Asked if a second referendum was now more likely, Mr Corbyn said: "I think it means that the issue is going to have to come back to Parliament, there's going to have to be a proper vote on it". We respect the result of the first referendum. According to rumors, Conservative member of parliament (MPs) have reached the magic number of 48 letters required to force a confidence vote, which could put the United Kingdom in the hands of a new government and a new approach to Brexit.
