Peter Strzok says FBI has instructed him not to answer questions

Peter Strzok the FBI agent facing criticism following a series of anti Trump text messages walks to gives a deposition before the House Judiciary Committee on Capitol Hill in Washington. Strzok whose anti-Trump

Ultimately Strzok responded to a question from Gowdy about the early portion of the Russian Federation investigation by defending his own work and the work of the FBI.

"I think it's important when you look at those texts that you understand the context in which they were made and the things going on across America", said Strzok.

"Lisa Page has finally agreed to appear before the House Judiciary and Oversight Committees for a transcribed interview tomorrow", Goodlatte said in a statement.

Strzok testified before the House in a closed-door hearing in June, where Republicans railed against his credibility in claiming that his texts with Page were not evidence that he meant to block Trump from the presidency, as his critics have said an August 2016 message suggests.

Strzok sought to explain his texts, including when he told Page "we'll stop" Trump, which he said was written in response to Trump's attacks on a Gold Star family during the 2016 campaign. Bernie Sanders (I-VT). He will allege to House members that there is "simply no evidence of bias in [his] professional actions".

Strzok, who has been at the bureau for more than 20 years and previously served in the U.S. Army, played critical roles in the investigation of former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and the bureau's then-secretive probe of ties between Russian Federation and the Trump campaign.

"It was in no way, unequivocally, any suggestion that me, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, would take any action whatsoever to improperly impact the electoral process for any candidate", Strzok added.

The texts were discovered during the Justice Department inspector general's probe of the Clinton email investigation.

"At no time in any of these texts did those personal beliefs ever enter into the realm of any action I took", Strzok said.

Peter Strzok said he had information with "the potential to derail and quite possibly defeat" Trump but said the "thought of expressing that or exposing that information never crossed his mind". "As someone who loves this country and cherishes its ideals, it is profoundly painful to watch and even worse to play a part in".

The sharp tone of Strzok's statement set the stage for a contentious hearing following hours of closed-door questioning last week.

Strzok is on Capitol Hill Thursday to answer questions and defend himself, after his anti-Trump text messages with then-FBI official Lisa Page placed him under intense scrutiny, particularly from Republicans. But the report said it found no evidence of political bias in the FBI's decision to not pursue criminal charges against Clinton.

Strzok admitted he had privately criticised Trump as well as other politicians, including Trump's Democratic opponent in the election, Hillary Clinton.

FBI Director Chris Wray says the FBI has referred to internal disciplinary officials employees who were singled out for criticism in the inspector general's report.

Goodlatte late Wednesday had threatened to begin contempt proceedings against Page if she did not agree to one of two options: Appear with Strzok for a public hearing on Thursday or show up for an interview on Friday.
