Page's Attorney Slams House Republicans' 'Bullying Tactics'

Former FBI attorney Lisa Page will not appear for a private interview with two House committees despite being subpoenaed, her attorney told Fox News Tuesday.

The House Judiciary and Oversight and Government Reform Committees are investigating whether there was bias in FBI and DOJ investigations into Hillary Clinton's email server and Russian meddling in the presidential election.

Napolitano said Wednesday that if Page does, in fact, need more time to prepare, she should be given that time in order to ensure a truthful testimony.

House Speaker Paul Ryan said he was willing to hold her in contempt.

Embattled FBI Attorney Lisa Page was expected to testify behind closed doors on Capitol Hill today, but failed to comply with a congressional subpoena by refusing to show up.

The House Judiciary Committee issued a subpoena for Page's testimony earlier this week.

A report by the Justice Department's internal watchdog released last month detailed the inflammatory texts between the two, including an exchange in which Strzok wrote "we'll stop it" in reference to a potential Trump election win.

In an interview with the Wall Street Journal earlier this year, Trump said the text between Strzok and Page amounted to "treason" and had exposed an Federal Bureau of Investigation plot against him.

"This investigation is a political charade-a platform to elevate far-right conspiracy theories and undermine the Special Counsel's ongoing criminal investigation of the President and his campaign aides, which has already produced five guilty pleas and criminal charges against 23 individuals and entities", said Representative Jerrold Nadler, the ranking member of the Committee on the Judiciary.

Committee chairman Rep. Bob Goodlatte criticized Page in a statement Tuesday night. "Wow, but is anybody really surprised!"

In a second tweet, Trump wrote: "How can the Rigged Witch Hunt proceed when it was started, influenced and worked on, for an extended period of time, by former FBI Agent/Lover Peter Strzok?". Read his hate filled and totally biased Emails and the answer is clear!

Strzok was already interviewed privately by lawmakers on the two committees for 11 hours June 27.

Aiming to discredit the probe, Trump and supporters in Congress have charged that Mueller's team is stacked with Democrats and that the Federal Bureau of Investigation has been opposed to him.

The Judiciary Committee also held a contentious hearing June 28 with FBI Director Christopher Wray and Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein.

He is scheduled to appear again in a public hearing Thursday morning.
