Kim Jong-un blows off Mike Pompeo to look at potato farm

S. Korea approves rare screening of N. Korea films

After U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo's meeting with North Korean officials in Pyongyang last week, he stated the U.S. and North Korea would hold working-level talks on repatriating the remains, July 12.

"I extend my conviction that the epochal progress in promoting the DPRK-US relations will bring our next meeting forward", Kim concludes, using the abbreviation for the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, the North's official name.

US officials and experts have said the shift in attitude was to be expected as the North Koreans are known for brinkmanship and trying to up the ante ahead of tough negotiations over their nuclear missile program.

The remains of almost 8,000 US troops remain unaccounted for on the Korean peninsula, and 5,300 of those bodies are believed to be located somewhere north of the demilitarized zone.

Donald Trump told reporters he wouldn't reveal what the gift was.

South Korea's urbanization is one reason why more than a 1,000 US service members are unaccounted for, said McKeague.

South Korean media also reported that the North Koreans didn't show up, citing government officials.

President Donald Trump said Tuesday that he does, in fact, plan to give North Korean leader Kim Jong Un a CD with the Elton John hit "Rocket Man", as well as another mystery gift "at a certain period".

Its explanation: "1 child can not be reunified at this time because the parent's location has been unknown for more than a year". It now appears as if the Trump administration will clearly miss this deadline by a wide margin.

Trump told a crowd of supporters a week later that the remains of 200 Americans "have been sent back". "They didn't show." The newspaper identifies the negotiators waiting for the North Koreans as "Department of Defense and United Nations Command" officials.

The US military has since announced that 100 wooden coffins have been moved to the inter-Korean border in preparation.

North Korea also proposed to reschedule the meeting for Sunday.

However, while the North's attitude may further impede the denuclearization talks, the regime is unlikely to boycott them.

The fact that North Korea seem to be dragging its feet on this issue fuels already growing doubts among President Trump's critics about whether the Singapore summit was a success or simply a publicity stunt for Mr Kim, the BBC's Cindy Sui in Seoul reports.

However, recovery efforts were suspended when the relationship between both countries worsened, as the North began the advancement of its nuclear programme.

Other speculation is that North Korea was discomforted with the way it was portrayed by the US media _ as trying to make money from the war remains.
