July 2018 - Thai cave rescue: a timeline

British diver Robert Charles Harper

Asked whether the remaining four "Wild Boars" team and their coach would come out at the same time in the next rescue effort, he said: "It depends on the plan".

The boys were trapped in the Tham Luan Nang Non cave that became flooded by monsoon rains while they were exploring it after a soccer practice on June 23.

British divers found the team, hungry and huddled in darkness in a partly flooded chamber several kilometres inside the complex, on Monday last week. The remaining four boys and coach were brought to safety Tuesday morning as part of a third day of rescue operations.

Torrential rain struck the cave site on Monday evening and the downpour continued through Tuesday morning, but authorities said preparations for the final rescue mission were unaffected.

"Hooyah", the Thai Navy SEALs, who have played a crucial role in the against-the-odds operation, said in a Facebook post as they announced that a total of eight members of the "Wild Boars" football team had been rescued on Sunday and Monday.

The ninth boy was carried from the cave on a stretcher shortly AFTER 11:00 SAST, Reuters and CNN reported.

"I was in contact with the two Danish divers to let them know that we were there for them if they needed our support", Wolffhechel said.

"We had imagined all sorts of catastrophic situations - equipment breaking, children panicking", he said, adding that the officials had backup options in mind in case anything falls apart.

Divers lead four of the boys out of the cave as night falls, sending them to the hospital.

Somboon Sompiangjai, 38, the father of one of the trapped boys, said parents had been told by rescuers that the "strongest children" would be brought out first. Thai authorities have said the boys have stayed "good and happy".

"All five will be brought out at the same time today", said the head of the rescue mission, Narongsak Osottanakornon, on Tuesday.

It could be at least seven days before they can be released from hospital, Mr Jesada told a news conference. The 18-day ordeal ended after three rescue missions which involved the Thai navy SEALs and divers from around the world.
