Green Day's American Idiot continues to climb ahead of Trump's United Kingdom visit

While American Idiot has crept up to number one on the UK Amazon sales chart and cracked the iTunes Top 10, the 1996 England anthem is now expected to hold it from the official top spot.

The rally to get Green Day's fourteen year old song to number one has been gathering pace on social media.

As of Monday, the rock tune - which was originally written about U.S. President George W. Bush - is the No. 1 single on Amazon's best sellers list.

"American Idiot" was also the name of Green Day's 2004 album, which was adapted to a Tony-award winning stage musical in 2009. "Keep doing that until midnight on Thursday".

If nothing else, the "American Idiot" campaign is turning out to be educational - in order to efficiently direct its supporters' efforts and spending, its organizers have been getting people more acquainted with the rules of the charts as they relate to streaming services. Tim Kaine, a Virginia Democrat, on Friday joking that North Korean leader Kim Jong Un would send the United States a copy of their album.
