As App Store turns 10, Apple drops heavy hints of AR future

Hackers like to take advantage when real applications have not been released yet, or when a new feature is expected to be released but has not quite made it to the market. The app has been officially updated with support for the iPhone X and if you haven't downloaded the app already or updated it, you can do so by heading on over to the iTunes App Store for the download.

Apple has shared App Store highlights in 11 sections-let's recap what they have detailed below.

In its first decade, the App Store has surpassed all of our wildest expectations - from the innovative apps that developers have dreamed up, to the way customers have made apps part of their daily lives - and this is just the beginning.

In lieu of the App Store's 10th anniversary on 10th of July, Apple has published a page with 10 detailed points on how the App Store has changed. Subscriptions are up 95 percent from a year ago, and as of June 2018, developers have earned over $100 billion from the App Store. Well, collectively, Americans are the biggest iOS spenders, throwing $36 billion at Apple's virtual app store during its lifetime.

Apple says the "App Store has been the epicentre of a mobile video consumption boom", with HBO saying its HBO NOW service becoming one of the "most significant moments" in the company's history. Even if you don't have an Apple device, for using certain services like Apple Services, you will need to have an Apple ID. This meant that smaller developers had an avenue where they could show off their work and they would deal directly with Apple which freed them up to be really creative. More than 500 doctors have also used the company's suite of wellness tools for clinical studies.

With iOS and the App Store, Apple turned smartphones from a product to an ongoing service. Without it, AssistiveWare would likely still be a one-man Mac developer. In 2017, consumer spend on the marketplace amounted to $42.5 billion, according to App Annie, the most it has earned so far. In other words, ten years later, the imitators are still trailing Apple. Apple said today that its Today tab stories, which variously highlight new apps, go behind the scenes in development, and round up topical downloads, have been read by more than a million people.

In 2011, the App Store started supporting subscription apps, and by 2016, had expanded support to all 25 of its categories, including Games, Kids and Health and Fitness.

It often comes as a surprise that, given Android's lion share of the market, app developers generally choose iOS as the platform to build for.
