A 30-year-old woman has been arrested in the vicious Fourth of July beating of a man in his 90s who was walking in the Willowbrook neighborhood of South Los Angeles, authorities announced Wednesday.

According to the family members, Rodriguez was taking a stroll at around 8pm Pacific when the woman believed he accidentally bumped into a young girl as he was trying to get around her.

Jones has been charged with assault with a deadly weapon and is now being held in custody with bond set at $200,000.

Aurelia Rodriguez, second left, Rodolfo Rodriguez, 92, center, greets witness, Misbel Borjas, right, as he walks to talk to the media outside his home in Los Angeles Wednesday, July 11, 2018. Police are still investigating whether more suspects were involved.

While Rodriguez - who was interviewed by investigators - wasn't able to remember much about the incident, he was able to identify his attacker in the video.

Mr Rodriguez is recovering from a broken cheekbone and two broken ribs. "The woman pushed him and dropped him".

An eyewitness told KABC that the attack started after Rodriguez passed the woman while walking down the sidewalk. "I'm in so much pain".

Rodriguez had planned to visit family in Mexico at the end of the week, but the trip has been canceled, his daughter said.

Borjas had been driving by, she said, and wanted to stop, but the woman threatened to hit her auto with the brick. Public records show that Rodriguez is 91-years-old, though Mendoza said his grandfather was 92-years-old.

"Who would do this to anybody?" the victim's grandson, Erik Mendoza, told NBC Los Angeles.

"I'm just overwhelmed how anybody can do this to a human being at all", Mendoza told KCBS-TV. "He's 92 years of age. What kind of threat does he pose to you, for you to do this to him?"

Rodriguez, who doesn't speak English and is a legal USA resident, said he doesn't understand why the mob attacked him.

A GoFundme page set up by his family to cover medical costs has already received more than $260,000 in donations.

The newspaper notes that Rodriguez, who is a legal US citizen, was released from the hospital and has been recovering at home.

But LASD told FOX 11 they now have no evidence this was a hate crime, though they continue to investigate.
