Amy Adams stars in the new HBO miniseries

HBO has been the best in recent memory when it comes to adapting books into serial television, and we should expect big things from the talented group that put the series together.

"Big Little Lies" director Jean-Marc Valee is also at the helm of "Sharp Objects", and though Amy was having discussions with him first, she was pleased the filmmaker worked on the other show first.

Sharp Objects was originally a book written by Gillian Flynn, who wrote Gone Girl and Dark Places. What did you think of the series premiere? Sometimes streaming viewers' episodes on HBO start about three minutes earlier than the broadcast time, so you might want to check around 8:57 p.m.

Premiere of eight-part limited series based on the best-selling novel by Gillian Flynn; newspaper reporter Camille Preaker is sent to her rural hometown to investigate the story of two missing girls, forcing her to confront hard issues with her family while teaming with detective Richard Willis to try to solve the case; 9 p.m. Sunday on HBO. She finds herself identifying with the victims while also grappling with psychological puzzles from her past, mostly involving her cold mother (Patricia Clarkson).

The series will have eight episodes total. One, he believes the murders are connected; and two, he senses that Camille isn't facing her past.

Sharp Objects Episode 4: RipeCamille shows Richard some of Wind Gap's crime scenes, though the tour opens up old wounds; Alan confronts Adora about her sharing confidences with Chief Vickery; John shares off-the-record revelations with Camille that raise fresh concerns for her.

Episode 7, "Falling", does not have a listed air date yet.
