Mike Pence: 'I Do' Still Want Roe v. Wade Overturned

Ever since Kavanaugh was tagged by President Trump, Congressional Democrats have promised staunch opposition to Kavanugh's confirmation - arguing that the nominee would rollback abortion rights along with many other progressive Supreme Court rulings.

Asked by CNN's Dana Bash whether he wants to see Roe v. Wade overturned, Pence replied, "I do, but I haven't been nominated for the Supreme Court".

During the 2016 campaign, Trump pledged to consider only Supreme Court nominees who were against abortion rights, while Pence has said that he longs for the day when Roe v. Wade "is sent to the ash heap of history".

"I stand for the sanctity of life", Pence added. "I'm proud to be part of a pro-life administration that's advanced pro-life policies".

"But what the American people ought to know is that, as the President said today, this was not an issue that he discussed with Judge Kavanaugh. I didn't discuss it with him, either".

Pence said that Trump chose Kavanaugh as a nominee for his "credentials" and "judicial philosophy" ― not specifically to overturn Roe v. Wade.

"The President believes that the proper consideration for a nominee to the Court is not about litmus tests", Pence said in response. "Frankly, we've seen enough of litmus tests over the decades".

"Kavanaugh may have the ability to vote on Sturgeon vs Frost, the Alaska hovercraft case that goes before the Court this fall, and could very well be the pivotal vote to ensure Alaskans have the ability to enjoy the public lands and waters we have, against federal overreach", Treadwell said Monday night in a written statement.

In a separate interview with Fox News' Brett Baier Tuesday, Pence was shown video of Sen.

Former Planned Parenthood president Cecile Richards appeared on "Hardball" to proclaim "abortion existed before Roe and it was simply illegal and unsafe and young, healthy women died routinely in emergency rooms across this country and that's what we're looking at again if this court tips to the other side".
