North Korea's Kim hails 'unity' with China in new visit

North Korea to hand over US troops remains ‘in next few days’ – report

Agreements between the two leaders were being carried out "one-by-one", it said.

For the third time this year, North Korea's Kim Jong-un is in China, and meeting with President Xi Jinping.

President Donald Trump walked out of his historic meeting last week with North Korea's Kim Jong Un with a "bad deal" for the United States, a former defense official told lawmakers on Wednesday.

This picture taken on June 19, 2018 and released by North Korea's official Korean Central News Agency via KNS on June 20, shows North Korea's leader Kim Jong-un (front R) and his wife Ri Sol Ju (front L) arriving at a Beijing airport.

A report by North Korea's official Korean Central News Agency said Kim expressed his gratitude to Chinese President Xi Jinping when they met on Tuesday.

Kim earlier visited an agricultural technology park and rail traffic control center, accompanied by Beijing's top official, Cai Qi, Xinhua said.

Trump told reporters after their June 12 summit that Kim had pledged to dismantle one of his missile installations, which would be North Korea's most concrete concession at the landmark meeting in Singapore.

He made the comments just hours after Mr. Trump escalated his trade feud with China with a threat to impose tariffs of 10 percent on another $200 billion worth of Chinese goods in retaliation for Beijing's disputed intellectual property practices and its aggressive response to previous USA tariffs, a move Chinese officials said they were willing to match.

USA officials, speaking on condition of anonymity, said on Tuesday that in coming days North Korea would hand over a "sizeable number" of remains to United Nations Command in South Korea, and they would then be transferred to Hickam Air Force Base in Hawaii.

While Pompeo was the head of the CIA, North Korea accused the organization of trying to assassinate Kim.

Shin Beom-chul, a senior fellow at the Seoul-based Asan Institute for Policy Studies, said Kim and Xi were likely seeking "common ground" following the Singapore summit.

Over the course of this two-day visit, Kim and Xi exchanged vows of friendship and promises of economic cooperation, in a carefully choreographed display of amity that ignored the recent history of chilly relations between the neighbours.

USA officials are looking for signs that North Korea intends to follow through with its stated desire to denuclearise.

Kim said the two countries are as close and friendly as family, and help each other, adding that Xi has offered affectionate care and support for the DPRK people.

"Preparations continue" to receive the remains, the U.S. official told AFP on condition of anonymity.

"This was a bilateral decision between North Korea and the United States proposed by China and Russian Federation with no consultation with our closest allies, compounded by the president's statements that someday he would like to get out of Korea altogether".

The move marked a clear departure from China's previous stance of keeping silent on Kim's visit until he had returned home.
