French President Emmanuel Macron scolds teen for calling him 'Manu'

Macron speaking at a conference

"How's it going, Manu?" the teenager asked the French president, using a familiar nickname for "Emmanuel".

One teenager committed the awful crime of calling Macron by his nickname, "Manu".

"You are here at an official ceremony", Macron continued.

The incident occurred during the event dedicated to the call of former President Charles de Gaulle to the people's resistance against Nazi German occupation during the Second world war.

Since taking office, Macron has frequently come under fire in the French press for what are seen as delusions of grandeur out of place in the cradle of republicanism.

The teenager appeared embarrassed and apologised for the faux-pas.

Koko was born on the Fourth of July, 1971, at the San Francisco Zoo; her full name, Hanabi-Ko, is Japanese for "fireworks child". The foundation paid tribute to Koko by praising the influence she had as a "primary ambassador for her endangered species".

Worse still, the young visitor had been singing The Internationale, which is a French left-wing anthem, to slight the centre-right president.

The approach did not go down well with Macron, who took a second to admonish the teen in front of his peers, saying: "No, you can't do that, no, no, no, no".

Macron responded by giving the teen a dressing down and said: "No, you can't do that, no, no, no, no".

While the video got picked up by French media for the scolding, Macron shared the video on his own Twitter feed, telling followers that "Respect is the minimum in the Republic, especially on June 18, especially in the presence of the companions of the liberation. You can fool around, but today "La Marseillaise", "song of the partisans" (song of the French resistance - Ed.)", said macron. "But that does not stop you from having a relaxed conversation - look to the end".

In any case, if you want a vis-à-vis with the French president, it's probably best to address him by his full name - or sir.
