Michael Jackson Estate Developing Broadway Musical

The late Michael Jackson in March 2009

The Broadway musical marks a new type of stage venture for the Jackson estate, which previously sanctioned two Cirque du Soleil shows, Michael Jackson: The Immortal World Tour and Michael Jackson: One.

The pop icon died in 2009 after suffering acute propofol and benzodiazepine intoxication while preparing to perform a 50-show residency at London's The O2. Tony victor Christopher Wheeldon (An American in Paris) will direct and choreograph.

A new musical framed around the life and music of the late singer-songwriter Michael Jackson is now in development, Columbia Live Stage and The Michael Jackson Estate have announced.

The attorney general argued that "if we build the wall, if we pass legislation to end the lawlessness, we won't face these bad choices".

The musical will also feature a book by Pulitzer Prize victor, Lynn Nottage and a soundtrack full of "The King of Pop's" hits.

Producers of the musical announced the project on Tuesday without revealing a title and said they aimed for a premiere in 2020. And soon enough, he'll reach the highest pantheon in a pop singer's life: immortality via a tourist-friendly jukebox musical.

Jackson has been the subject of many previous entertainment ventures, including a staged concert, Thriller Live, that has been running for almost a decade in London. And as to who will play Jackson, it's safe to say that a long and comprehensive search should be underway.
