Confirmed: Neymar's ankle in pain

Willian

The Brazil national side have been handed a fresh injury concern in their World Cup campaign as their star player Neymar limped out of training on Tuesday.

The Paris-Saint Germain forward looked in fine fettle while taking part in a warm-up drill but quickly pulled up and was unable to continue.

"Neymar complained of ankle pains, due to the number of fouls suffered against Switzerland", Rodrigo Lasmar said on Twitter.

The Brazilian football confederation says the injury is not serious, adding Neymar left as a precaution and would be back in training tomorrow.

"Neymar felt some pain in his right ankle, so that's the reason he left training".

Neymar was initially in the middle trying to regain possession of the ball but as soon as he made a block with his right foot, he grimaced in pain. All games are like a final, even more so in the World Cup.

Neymar had already practiced separately from his teammates on Monday. Mexico's win will now further boost hopes of getting past the last-16, which has proved to be their bogey round in the last six World Cups. He was limping when he talked to reporters after the match, when doctors dismissed anything serious.

"In Brazil only being the champion is good, second place or fourth, like happened at the last cup, the players are criticised, the team". This game is important and we're looking for three points. "When he is on the field he helps us a lot".
