AMC Theatres taking on MoviePass with new movie ticket program

Subscribers can see all three movies on the same day if they wish and can watch the same movie repeatedly but can't carry over credits if they see fewer than three films per week.

The new AMC Stubs A-List program will allow members to pay $19.95 per month, which grants entrance to up to three "regular" movies each week. Enrollment for the service beings on June 26, and as soon as you enroll the benefits are immediately available.

Theatres is rolling out its own movie ticket program as it looks to take on the success of MoviePass.

MoviePass has made headlines in the previous year for disrupting the movie theater experience at a time of uneven attendance at movie theaters. CNNMoney reported in May that MoviePass' parent company, Helios and Matheson Analytics, burns through approximately $21.7 million each month to keep MoviePass in operation. "Heard AMC Theaters jumped on board the movie subscription train". Never mind that MoviePass is bleeding money with a completely unsustainable business model (while also pouring dollars into the universally panned Gotti), for AMC Theaters has launched its own rival plan, which will please the hell out of moviegoers and stands a better chance of sticking around for awhile. However, since it's only AMC theaters, users won't have access to a lot of the independent cinema that has been thriving with MoviePass.

Beginning Tuesday, the theater chain is adding a new tier to its current AMC Stubs rewards program called AMC Stubs A-List.
