Yemen Houthis Launch Attack on Saudi-Led Coalition's Supply Line

Yemeni forces and the Saudi-led coalition supporting the internationally recognised government launched an operation to retake the port city of Hodeidah last week.

Speaking at a press conference in Dubai on Monday, Anwar Gargash, the UAE's minister for foreign affairs, said he hoped its operation would pressure the Houthis to leave the city.

Houthi forces had blocked roads to the airport, they said.

The spokesman said that the control of the Hodeidah airport by the forces is very imminent, stressing that the port of Hodeidah is a strategic military target through which these terrorist militias receive weapons provided to them by Iran to deliberately trigger chaos in Yemen, and threaten maritime navigation in the Straits of Bab Al-Mandab.

"I emphasize my grave worry regarding the Saudi and Emirati-led coalition's ongoing attacks in Hodeidah - which could result in enormous civilian casualties and have a disastrous impact on life-saving humanitarian aid to millions of people which comes through the port", Zeid told the opening of a three-week session of the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva on Monday.

Control of the airport is now split between the coalition forces and the Houthi rebels, who are backed by Iran.

"They told us that some humanitarian organisations are going to send buses but then they said no buses could come in or out". So we started walking on foot carrying our children, sitting every while for rest while the Apaches hovered above us.

So as expected, they were traumatized and that was manifested in many behaviors", Davidson said in an interview with ABC News. Just one call , she begs anyone who will listen. "There's not enough votes because it doesn't solve the problem", he said.

"We have planned diligently around the humanitarian challenge", he said.

The offensive, Gargash said, will "continue unless rebels withdraw unconditionally".

U.N. special envoy Martin Griffiths arrived in Sana'a, the nation's capital, on Saturday to attempt to broker a cease-fire between the Houthi rebel group that's backed by Iran, and the coalition led by Saudi Arabia.

"Now we're in this school, no mattresses, no electricity, no water, no bathrooms, nothing".

Huthi representative Sharaf, however, accused the Saudi-backed government of "obstructing negotiations", saying the Hodeida offensive had foiled any potential peace talks in a statement carried by the rebels' Saba news agency.

"We regard as incorrect the adventurous policies of certain regional countries and believe that the continuation of this process will undoubtedly intensify the existing regional crisis", Rouhani said. The loss of the port or the severe restriction of access could quickly spin out of control in a country where 8.5 million people are on the brink of starvation and another 10 million are vulnerable to food shortages.

Gargash estimated the number of Houthi fighters in Hodeidah at between 2,000 to 3,000.
