S Korea, US to announce suspension of military drills

U.S. President Donald Trump gives North Korean leader Kim Jong Un a thumbs up during their meeting at a resort on Sentosa Island in Singapore on Tuesday

Trump, on Twitter, said, "Funny how the Fake News" - Trump's term for news stories he doesn't like - "in a coordinated effort with each other, likes to say I gave sooo much to North Korea because I 'met.' That's because that's all they have to disparage!"

Until he shook hands with North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un, that idea was the sort of fodder satirists would use to point out Trump's less than peaceful ways.

Trump has voiced his irritation at US critics' assessment that the brief pact he and Kim signed at their Singapore summit was not specific enough to ensure an end to North Korea's nuclear weapons development.

But as the days went by, the US and Seoul began discussions about temporarily suspending the large Ulchi Freedom Guardian exercises that usually take place in August and possibly other joint drills while nuclear diplomacy with North Korea continues.

South Korea and Japan are both market economies, democracies and USA allies and both are threatened by nuclear-armed North Korea, but their relationship is severely strained by historical and territorial issues.

No decision has been made on other US-South Korea drills, it added.

"There will be a meeting at the Pentagon later this week with the secretary of Defense, secretary of State and the National Security Advisor on this issue".

Moon Chung-in also said that Trump's decision was a good answer to North Korea.

Heather Locklear taken to hospital for psych evaluation after suicidal thoughts
When contacted by Variety , Locklear's publicist noted that the actress is on hiatus, and had no further information. We're told both the Ventura County Fire and Sheriff's Departments responded to Locklear's home.

He called them "very provocative", and said that he would suspend them while the United States negotiates with North Korea to end its nuclear weapons program "unless and until we see the future negotiation is not going along like it should". A Washington Post/ABC News poll released Sunday found that 55 percent of adults polled said it was "too early to tell" if the summit was a success for the U.S.

In response to repeated requests for cost data, Pentagon spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Christopher Logan, said: "We are now evaluating the costs of the exercises".

Accounts in South Korean media differ over who exactly proposed the measure, but it came at a general level military dialogue, which hadn't happened for over a decade before.

There's a lot to unpack in what he claimed over the course of the day, in the span of four tweets that Vipin Narang notes were more detailed together than the four operative clauses of the June 12 Singapore joint statement between Trump and Kim.

The Pentagon has formally suspended a major military exercise that was planned with South Korea in August.

No exercises in the Pacific outside of the Korean peninsula will be affected, White said.

China also was staunchly opposed to the US military's deployment of the Terminal High-Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) system in South Korea, which is created to shoot down ballistic missiles.

US and South Korean forces have been training together for years, and routinely rehearse everything from beach landings to an invasion from the North, or even "decapitation" strikes targeting the North Korean regime.
