England made the highest one-day global total in history, posting 481-6 against Australia in the third ODI at Trent Bridge.

England, already 2-0 up in the series, smashed 79 runs off the first 10 overs as both openers cruised to individual fifties. Having won the first two - by three wickets at the Oval and 38 runs at Sophia Gardens - England have the opportunity to win "the Royal London" cup at Trent Bridge with two matches to spare and eyes turned towards a whitewash for the first time since 2012, when Alastair Cook was captain and Ravi Bopara the best player. Thanks to twin tons by Alex Hales (147) and Jonny Bairstow (139) England managed to score 481 in their stipulated 50 overs.

Hales brought up the world record with a massive six off Jhye Richardson to the delight of a sell-out crowd.

Paine tried everything to stop the bleeding - using eight bowlers - but Bairstow and then Hales carted everything that was served up to them to all corners of the ground.

Bairstow finally departed for a stunning 139 off just 91 balls as he was caught in the deep off the bowling of spinner Ashton Agar.
