Elon Musk tells Tesla staff about employee's alleged 'sabotage'

Elon Musk Reckons A Saboteur Has Been Dicking Around With Tesla Production

Musk said this person had conducted "quite extensive and damaging sabotage" to the company's operations, including by changing code to an internal product and exporting data to outsiders. But in a separate email to staff, sent just after 9:30 a.m. on June 18, Musk branded the event "another odd incident that was hard to explain" and advised all staff to "be on the alert for anything not in the best interests" of the company.

"The full extent of his actions are not yet clear, but what he has admitted to so far is pretty bad", Musk, who also runs SpaceX, wrote.

Now, CNBC has learned that Musk also sent an e-mail to all employees at Tesla TSLA late on Sunday night alleging that he has discovered a saboteur in the company's ranks. His stated motivation is that he wanted a promotion that he did not receive.

Musk said that the company was trying to determine if the man was working alone or in concert with an outside organization, adding that there is a long list of them "that want Tesla to die", including short-sellers and oil and gas companies.

These, in Musk's words, include "Wall Street short-sellers, who have already lost billions of dollars", "oil and gas companies", as well as "big gas/diesel auto company competitors".

Yemeni forces advance on key port city
It's estimated 10,000 Yeminis have been killed and millions on the cusp of starvation after more than three years of civil war. Instead, they say they took power in a popular revolt and are defending Yemen from invasion by its neighbours.

Last week, Mr Musk said 9% of Tesla's workforce would be cut as part of a restructuring of the carmaker, which has not made an annual profit since it was created almost 15 years ago. If they're willing to cheat so much about emissions, maybe they're willing to cheat in other ways?

Please be extremely vigilant, particularly over the next few weeks as we ramp up the production rate to 5k/week.

Tesla said the vehicle fire was an "extraordinarily unusual occurrence".

Reuters and CNBC each obtained a copy of a memo that the Tesla CEO reportedly sent to all staff on Sunday night under the subject line "Some concerning news". Smoldering in an air filter in the welding area of Tesla's body line was extinguished in a matter of seconds, she said. "There were no injuries or significant equipment damage, and production is back online". "Please be on the alert for anything that's not in the best interests of our company".

Tesla stock has climbed for seven consecutive days and more than $19 billion has been added to the automaker's market capitalization in the past month, in part due to the confidence Musk has expressed in achieving the Model 3 production target.
