Tom Brady to Oprah: Patriots had anthem meetings

Tom Brady told Oprah that the loss in Super Bowl XLII was a nightmare

The New England Patriots quarterback recently sat down for an interview with Oprah Winfrey, during which he was asked about the national anthem protests that have been a controversial subject in the NFL and across the United States.

Brady, who turns 41 on August 3, won the league's MVP award last season before his team lost to the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl 52. Last season, numerous players continued to either kneel or lock arms during the anthem.

That's interesting considering that his friend President Donald Trump doesn't seem to have respect for the athlete's rights to protest racial injustice. You can do things for your reason, they can do things for their reason, and you have respect for that.

After Trump stated any National Football League "son of a bitch" who kneels for the anthem should be "fired", Brady called out the president. "And I think showing respect for everybody is - you know, in a locker room with a team of guys trying to go in the same direction, you better have that empathy for everybody".

"There's definitely an end coming sooner, rather than later", Brady told Winfrey. "I've been in it for a long time". And they're doing it for different reasons. "I don't care whether people think that or not". And I think I keep her, in some ways, in my belief - I know she's here - but I keep her just close enough where she doesn't go so far, you know? "Like I said, the great part about sports are the relationships", Brady said. I don't like when people say it.

Now, in an interview with Oprah Winfrey, the legendary quarterback revealed how the team dealt with the controversy.

The kneeling protest began in 2016 when Kaepernick refused to stand for the flag and national anthem in a gesture he said was in solidarity with Black Lives Matter. Cornerbacks Malcolm Butler and Stephon Gilmore were among those who chose to kneel, while Brady joined players that locked arms. If he doesn't think they can win a title with the team they have, it's going to be time for Brady to call it quits.
