Rebel Wilson has Australian defamation payout slashed

Rebel Wilson's record-breaking $4.5million defamation payout is SLASHED to just $600,000 on appeal

Actor Rebel Wilson's record defamation payout from magazine publisher Bauer Media has been slashed from $4.5 million to just $600,000 by Victoria's Court of Appeal.

The star of three "Pitch Perfect" movies and "Bridesmaids" won AUS$4.6 million (US$3.5 million) in damages from the German publisher previous year after a court found a series of articles accusing her of lying about her age, name and childhood events had cost her roles.

A number of media companies - including Nine Entertainment, the publisher of this website - attempted to join Bauer Media in its appeal against the award to Wilson.

In June a year ago a six-person jury found in favour of Wilson's claim against the publisher of Woman's Day and the Australian Women's Weekly.

In the hours before the appeal, Wilson pointed out that Thursday's case was contending the amount of money she was to be paid, not the result of the case.

The spokesman said Trump told Moon he would send Pompeo to Seoul immediately after the summit to explain its outcome. While aboard Air Force One, the president also tweeted out a plug for South Carolina Gov.

Wilson said on Twitter the night before the judgment that she had won the case regardless of the damages awarded.

Bauer successfully challenged the finding that Wilson should be compensated for film roles, including Trolls and Kung Fu Panda 3, which she testified she had lost following the articles' publication.

Speaking on behalf of Bauer Media, General Counsel, Adrian Goss, said in a statement: "It was important for us to revisit the award of damages".

That sum would have been the largest defamation payment ever ordered by an Australian court. "While this case was never about the money for me, I do hope to receive as much as possible to give away to charities and to support the Australian film industry", she added with a koala emoji at the end. Bauer Media quibbling about how much they now have to pay me, ' she wrote.

Wilson's legal representatives were not immediately available for comment.
