As the trade battle between US President Donald Trump and Prime Minister Justin Trudeau continues to escalate, Trump's threat to impose new tariffs on automobiles has industry stakeholders anxious.

"My mission was to send a strong signal of strength", Navarro said at the event, according to the Journal.

"I own that, that was my mistake, those were my words", he said.

White House trade adviser weighs in on 'Fox News Sunday'.

The backstabbing charge seems over the top, but the White House's contention is that Trudeau ought to have capped the G-7 summit by talking about Trump and the U.S. Donald Trump took offence to that and called Trudeau "very dishonest and weak" on Twitter for his "false statements".

"There are things we can't control, and Mr. Trump is one of them, but we can control tax policy, for instance; regulatory policy, for instance; and we are now less competitive".

"If Kim Jong Un reverses his commitments. then what the president said about Justin Trudeau will be repeated 10-fold about Kim Jong Un", Cotton told the Hugh Hewitt syndicated radio talk show. Our Tariffs are in response to his of 270% on dairy!

He also asked why he should allow countries to amass "Massive Trade Surpluses, as they have for decades, while our Farmers, Workers & Taxpayers have such a big and unfair price to pay?"

The minister stayed above the fray on those attacks, but she did not hesitate to repeat Canada's opposition to the tariffs in the bluntest of terms - in particular the use of Section 232 of USA trade law to justify the action on national security grounds.

"He learned", Trump said.

The Trudeau government has announced it will impose dollar-for-dollar, retaliatory tariffs on metals and a range of other USA products by July 1. The big question Canada and the European Union must answer for themselves, now, is whether Trump is an unfortunate temporary anomaly, or merely the first in a coming succession of "America First" presidents.

"It's kind of like. if you were sitting with a friend and then out of the blue, you just punched them in the face", said Heyman on CBC's "On the Money." "We have been, our trade is a disaster, our trade deals". Freeland also said she raised the issue with U.S. Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer, with whom she has been trying to renegotiate the North American Free Trade Agreement; with Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross, who is in charge of the investigation; and with Secretary of State Mike Pompeo.

"We've got to look at what supports are available to ensure that if their jobs, their livelihoods are compromised, what can the government do to support these folks".
