Donald Trump says North Korea no longer a nuclear threat: ‘sleep well!’

Trump and Kim signed a document on Tuesday stating that Pyongyang would work toward "complete denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula".

Frank Aum, a senior expert on North Korea at the U.S. Institute of Peace, told NPR that "Pompeo is correct that a significant portion of the denuclearization process could technically occur in two-and-a-half years", including the freezing of all nuclear and missile activities and the shutting down of known nuclear facilities.

"Most certainly in the president's first term", he said, speaking to a pool of journalists in Seoul, South Korea, where he was meeting his South Korean and Japanese counterparts. Trump has drawn bipartisan criticism at home for agreeing to pause joint U.S. "'You know, we're spending a fortune, every couple of months we're doing war games with South Korea, and I said, 'What's this costing?"

Baier called Kim "a killer" who has "executed people".

Pompeo faced immediate questioning from his traveling press about the content of the agreement with North Korea. Because complete encompasses verifiable and irreversible.

"I find that question insulting and ridiculous and, frankly, ludicrous", Pompeo responded when asked about the lack of that wording in the agreement.

Meeting briefly with Pompeo on Thursday morning, Moon said he was eager to hear how the United States and North Korea could "fully and expeditiously implement this great agreement".

Five South Korean women repatriated after causing trouble during Trump-Kim summit

"Kim Jong Un has proved to be a pretty ruthless leader in North Korea, and I'm not sure this sort of speed dating of a 45-minute one-on-one meeting. would suggest that there's nothing to be concerned about", he said. "One can't completely denuclearize without validating, authenticating - you pick the word", he said.

It was not immediately clear whether the freeze represents a major concession or not.

While Trump was flying back to Washington D.C. aboard Air Force One, North Korean state media began reporting its version of events at the summit, including an apparent pledge by Trump to stop joint military exercises with South Korea while a nuclear accord is negotiated.

"We had pretty much finished, and I said, 'Would you do me a favor?"

Using the military exercises as a massive negotiating chip in exchange for the North denuclearizing is a pretty orthodox policy proposal, but it stunned nearly everybody that Trump seemed to be giving this away for free after his meeting.

Most of all, I think they feel relief - relief they would not have felt, and certainly not to the same degree, if the Democrats hadn't drummed up hysteria about an impending war with North Korea.

"[It] needs to be clarified by the South Koreans and also by the White House, exactly what we mean". Moscow and Beijing have long pushed a plan known as "freeze-for-freeze", referring to a halt to US military maneuvers alongside a freeze in North Korean nuclear and missile tests. And so do the North Koreans.

In his post-summit press conference, Trump made the surprise announcement that the U.S. would halt joint military exercises with its security ally Seoul - something long sought by Pyongyang, which claims the drills are a rehearsal for invasion.

"There are always concerns about President Trump and he's very erratic", Wit said.

Donald Trump has become the first USA president to meet and shake hands with a North Korean leader.

In his post-summit press conference, Trump made the surprise announcement that the USA would halt joint military exercises with its security ally Seoul - a concession Pyongyang has sought for decades.

The sanctions regime that has placed unprecedented restrictions on the North Korean economy is now likely to slip. "He's an incredible guy", Trump said.

Clinton reached an aid-for-disarmament deal in 1994 that halted North Korea's plutonium production for eight years, freezing what was then a very small atomic arsenal.

He said he was confident Pyongyang understood the need for verification that it was dismantling its nuclear programme. Bruce Cumings the American historian has described North Korean as a garrison state and it's been like that for a number of decades now.
