Browbeaten? On Twitter, Justin Trudeau's 'Fake Eyebrows' Trumps US Tirade

In particular, Canada, Japan and the European G7 powers are outraged by Trump's unilateral - or illegal, in their eyes - imposition of tariffs on imported steel and aluminum in the name of preserving USA industry on national security grounds.

Immediately after his remarks Saturday, Trump blasted Trudeau's statement as "dishonest & weak" on Twitter and announced the USA would not be signing the joint G7 communique - a symbolic but unprecedented move. Meanwhile on CNN Larry Kudlow said Trudeau "stabbed us in the back".

US President Donald Trump issued a volley of tweets on Monday venting anger on some of Washington's closest North Atlantic Treaty Organisation allies over the United State's trade deficit, following a divisive G7 meeting in Canada.

Trudeau addressed a news conference after the G7 summit, in which he said that Canada would "move forward with retaliatory measures" starting from July 1 in response to Trump's decision to impose 25 percent trade tariffs on aluminum and steel on its closest allies Canada, Mexico, and the European Union.

G7 allies seemed as perplexed as Canada at the sudden diplomatic row, and Germany and France accused Mr Trump of destroying trust and acting inconsistently.

The announcement came after the president left the summit, which while in attendance he had announced he wants to put an end to the United States' status as the world's "piggy bank" and suggested eliminating trade barriers between allies.

"It's a little worse within North America - the underlying bargain was that U.S. neighbors would receive special treatment", Alden said in the same press call.

"On his comments, I'm going to stay focused on defending jobs for Canadians and supporting Canadian interests", Trudeau said before walking away from reporters. "He learned. You can't do that". Trump said in a second tweet. "Canada has stood with the United States in every modern war and crisis".

Hours after Mr Trump withdrew his support for the joint statement and attacked Mr Trudeau, Mr Kudlow and trade adviser Peter Navarro drove the message home on Sunday morning news shows in an extraordinary assault on a close USA ally and neighbour.

While the agreement of legislators who are normally opposed on most fronts was remarkable, the anger also spread to pundits, officials, celebrities and ordinary citizens as Canadians vowed consumer boycotts of American goods and brainstormed insults of Trump on social media. "We have been, our trade is a disaster, our trade deals".

"Navarro himself crossed a line, basically telling a leader of a foreign nation that he needs to go to hell.I don't care how mad, how angry you are, you don't treat the head of state of another country like that unless you are getting ready for a military engagement of some kind".
