MPR Raccoon removed from UBS roof; released into wild

Raccoon Scaling St. Paul Skyscraper Sets Off Social Media Firestorm

The world is now watching a pretty ballsy raccoon who chose to climb a skyscraper earlier today and is yet to come back down.

The UBS Plaza building is 25 stories tall.

Looking like a smaller, hairier version of Spiderman, the raccoon was able to scale nearly the entire building, finally stopping to rest outside the Paige Donnelly Law Firm on the 23rd floor. Wildlife Management Services provides animal control services for St. Paul.

Nearby Minnesota Public Radio, which broke the story and closely followed the raccoon's climb from its headquarters less than a block away, branded the animal #mprraccoon.

The raccoon will be released back into the wild.

Naturally, someone who is decidedly not the raccoon has started a Twitter account on the critter's behalf.

Wendy's, Whataburger, and others react to IHOP name change
Here's how other fast-food chains - and a few brands outside the restaurant industry - responded to the viral IHOb announcement. Another person wrote: "Born too late to explore the world".

Laurie Brickley, St. Paul Department of Safety and Inspection spokesperson, confirmed Tuesday evening that traps were set on the roof.

Live traps were filled with aromatic food and placed on the roof of the building but, aside from that, the creature was on its own.

With no balconies or windows that open, office workers inside the building were left to watch anxiously as the raccoon continued its climb.

MPR reporter Tim Nelson tweeted a video of the raccoon "doing a little grooming" from the 23rd floor's ledge, "now that he's a social media star".

Finally, in the early-morning hours, the raccoon scampered to the roof, scaling the several-meter long flat surface before reaching the edge and disappearing.
