Apple rumor claims USB-C support for 2019 iPhones and future iPads

Image Apple began working on the USB issue before learning it was popularly used by police

We've heard whispers about the future of Lightning before, of course, but Apple's decision to go all-in on USB-C with its MacBooks further lends credibility to the claim that iPhone will follow suit. A Digitimes report today claims that "Apple is still in its redesign phase" with USB-C technology and will not include it in 2018 iPhones.

Not only is USB Type-C a far more robust option than the current Lightning connector in terms of bandwidth but it will also help alleviate the woes of owning a litany of connectors and adapters that iPhone users now have to wrestle with.

DUP to back Theresa May over Brexit amendments
Its Lords were instrumental in bringing about some of the amendments that have been sent back to the Commons. The upshot of the shift may well be as dramatic as the parliamentary procedure is incomprehensible.

Apple's adoption of the USB-C port on its 2019 iPhone lineup would also greatly accelerate the adoption of the connector across the tech industry. However, as iPhones and iPads continue to grow in processing power, and interest in wireless accessories has increased, Apple may see value in a dramatically faster wired port for charging and data.

As much as it would make sense for Apple to switch over to USB-C connectivity for its iPhone lineup, I doubt the company is going to make the leap. Many flagship Android phones already use USB-C for charging, and have done so for a number of years. Except for being a common standard, USB-C has no other advantage over Lightning connector in a smartphone.
