Classified collusion briefing features top lawmakers, Federal Bureau of Investigation … and Trump's lawyer

Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin

The President repeated an unsubstantiated claim that an Federal Bureau of Investigation informant who contacted advisers to his campaign was a political "spy", days after Justice Department officials briefed lawmakers on classified materials about the probe into Russian meddling in the election. To hear President Trump tell it, the Russian Federation investigation could easily be mistaken for the latter - a hotbed of political subterfuge, complete with spies, sabotage, a deep state and corrupt prosecutors.

In fact, the year-long claim by the Left of Russian collusion has been flipped on its head in recent weeks to the point that Trump's claim he was spied on - a claim mocked by Democrats and the media - has not only been confirmed but defended as routine and non-political.

Trump has dubbed the reported informant digging around during his presidential campaign as a "spy", and said "it could be one of the biggest political scandals in history!"

White House spokeswoman Sarah Sanders said White House Chief of Staff John Kelly and Emmet Flood, a White House lawyer, made brief remarks to those attending the meetings "to relay the president's desire for as much openness as possible under the law", but departed before the sessions officially started. "Large dollars were paid to the Spy, far beyond normal", he said, without citing evidence, before referring to the matter as "one of the biggest political scandals in US history".

The White House confirmed on Wednesday it's planning for a bipartisan group of House and Senate leaders, known as the "Gang of 8", to receive a highly classified intelligence briefing on the FBI's investigation into Russian meddling, reversing plans to exclude Democrats altogether.

However, this new study found that if the former group then slept for eight hours or more on the weekend, there was no increase. The study also found that the link between sleep patterns and mortality disappeared for those aged 65 or older.

Democratic leaders in Congress said they heard no evidence in a classified briefing on Thursday to substantiate Trump's claim.

Now, the president is publicly arguing that this informant was not an FBI asset assisting in a legitimate counterintelligence investigation - but rather, a "spy" that the Obama administration embedded in his campaign "for political purposes."

Schiff said he was speaking for all the Democrats who attended including top Senate Democrat Chuck Schumer, top House Democrat Nancy Pelosi, and top Senate Intelligence Committee Democrat Mark Warner.

President Trump revisited his angry crusade Sunday against "13 Angry Democrats" and special counsel Robert Mueller's "rigged investigation", blasting Democrats for failing to investigate the ill-fated 2016 campaign of Hillary Clinton.

"The Special Counsel's investigation is not a closed matter, but an ongoing criminal investigation with multiple lines of non-public inquiry", the filing says, indicating that there are many facets of the probe that are not well-understood by the public.

Whether Trump will agree to be interviewed as part of the probe remains uncertain.
