Reading program gets off to rocking start

Library starts summer reading off with a bang

Reading logs are available for children of all ages wanting to participate in the Summer Reading Program at the Pella Public Library.

This year's theme is "Reading Take You Everywhere" and the program is filled with activities, events and reading lists created to show you that reading can take your imagination anywhere. The library's read-to-me and reading challenges are open to children from birth to 6th grades, to teens ages 12 to 18 and adults 19 and older.

If you're ready for fun this summer, come down to the library, pick up your summer reading catalog and a copy of "I Say Ooh You Say Aah".

During the event, children can also sign up for the Summer Reading Club, which works similar to the adult program.

"We also have a lot of great activities and events planned throughout June and July for patrons of all ages", said interim circulation supervisor Sarah Davidson. Additionally, awesome alphabet story times with Ms. Lisa Flanigan are happening Fridays and Saturdays at 11:30 am in June. We have a couple of different approaches to making the summer reading hype real, but by far the most enjoyment is still had by reading a good book.

And the price is always right: all programs are free of charge.

During the eight-week program, participants will get a lab book to record their reading minutes and can win individual and team prizes. "When they hear a magician, everybody's going to want to go to the show", Seabrooks-Riggins said.

Other exciting things occurring during the summer months will be a Jurassic Park event and a Harry Potter party.

Meghan Markle is now taking lessons in being a Royal
"It was a parting call in which they both acknowledged Harry was moving on", a source tells royal correspondent Katie Nicholl. Prince William and Kate Middleton were far more formal. "Insane and scary and uncomfortable".

Each of the city libraries will host performances to celebrate the beginning of the reading programs.

"There won't be any quizzes about the material that they read", she said.

"Summer slide, we know that that happens if they're not reading and keeping up with that over the summer", she said. The system is now the largest library system in Florida by square footage and one of the busiest, with more than 7.5 million walk-in customers visiting its 38 locations annually.

"We think it's a very important part of our mission to promote reading and getting young children interested in coming to the library", said James Moore, supervisory librarian.

The library kicks off it's adult summer festivities at both the Main Library and Vauxhall Branch on Saturday, June 16th from 10 am to 4 pm.

"We had a huge increase all across the board past year", Hamilton said. Children are encouraged to bring their teddy bears to the library for story time.

To attract 11- to 15-year-olds, Moran started a new Thursday Teens and Tweens craft time every Thursday at 3 p.m.
