Many disappointed in NFL's stance on players' social activism

Broncos player slams Trump for saying protesting NFL players ‘shouldn’t be in the country’ ‘It’s disgusting

In the wake of US President Donald Trump making a major issue of players kneeling during the anthem, National Football League club owners unveiled a plan Wednesday where home teams decide if they will take the field for the anthem and all players who do must stand.

Broncos linebacker Brandon Marshall, who protested for several games in 2016 and once in 2017, was asked about the president's comments after practice Thursday.

"I think they are million dollar slaves, and I think the owners have proven that theory", Khalif said. This changed when President Trump, in an attempt to mobilize his most reactionary supporters and divert attention from his crisis-ridden administration, launched a public attack on the National Football League for not cracking down more forcefully on protests, declaring, "Wouldn't you love to see one of these National Football League owners, when somebody disrespects our flag, to say 'get that son of a bitch off the field right now, out, he's fired'".

Brown's treatment epitomizes why Colin Kaepernick first began to silently sit and kneel during the anthem to protest social injustices and police abuses that fly in the face of what the flag represents. A country born in dissent can handle a few protesters, however distasteful their displays of anger against the land of the free and the home of the fearless. "That's not how things should work". "Players like Malcolm Jenkins have to show whether they are willing to put their career on the line like Kaeperick did or if they are going to fall in line with the slave masters who have already betrayed them". Everybody is not going to have the same opinion on things. I have family that has served, and Ciara's dad, so I respect the military and what that means and the freedom of that and what they give us, but at the same time, we need to be focused on how we can help. "That's absurd, in my opinion".

Baldwin said the NFL's new policy only revived the issue and agreed that some players who maybe had moved on from protesting in any manner might now consider again taking a stance. The league can now fine teams that participate in protests, with the punishment of individual players left up to their team.

Since the new policy is a change in the terms and conditions of employment that was not collectively bargained, any attempts to fine individual players would surely be opposed by the union.

"I think that's good", Trump said in an interview with "Fox & Friends" that taped Wednesday and aired Thursday.

After those details were made public, she announced an independent investigation into the agency. The Republican Party of Iowa called on Boulton to step down as a candidate and as state senator.

Such protests could become more prevalent if teams decide to strongly discipline players who demonstrate during the anthem. The protests, created to get people's attention, has only made many of those who need to hear the message the most instead tune the players out under the belief they're un-American. "That's humiliating us as a person, because we're trying to stand for something, to single us out in front of everybody".

Marshall wishes players were consulted, but understands the league took action in the name of protecting the integrity of the NFL shield. "I think they should have, right, but I guess they don't look at us like that, to have a say-so or input in this policy".

We fail to see how this is any different than what most Americans experience every day at their workplaces. "I would expect that everybody's gonna be out there with their hand over their heart, showing respect to the flag and to the country".

"I'm really not too anxious about it", New Orleans quarterback Drew Brees said.

But teammate Demario Davis had mixed emotions about the policy.

"I feel like it might make people rebel, " he said. Patriotism is loving it enough to sacrifice for it, but also to call it (out) when it's wrong. "But it's important for people to understand that".
