Apple blocks Steam's plan to extend its video games to iPhones

Apple rejects Steam Link app on iOS

Essentially meaning that there is no chance of seeing Steam Link on an Apple device. Valve is appealing the case and, if there are enough users clamoring about it, Apple might reconsider.

One of the biggest stories for PC gamers and mobile gaming enthusiasts is the recent release of the Steam Link mobile app.

After its announcement for iOS and Android earlier this month and a successful Android beta, Valve's Steam Link app will not be launching on iOS. But Apple has rejected the app, blocking its release, according to a statement from Steam's parent company, the Bellevue, Washington-based Valve Corp.

The unusual retraction leaves iOS owners hoping to use Steam Link in limbo.

Valve is understandably hacked off having spent many hours on this project and the approval process. I was looking forward to testing out Steam in-home streaming once again on my iPad, but unless Apple changes its mind, we won't be getting that opportunity. It seems possible its decision is related to concerns that the app circumvents the App Store, letting Valve sell games to iOS users without allowing Apple to get a cut, but that's purely speculation at this point.

Memorial Day Weekend could have highest gas prices since 2014
South Dakotans are paying nearly 50 cents more for gas per gallon than previous year around the holiday weekend. Airports will be busy too, and Chicago's airports are expecting more than 1.7 million passengers.

The Steam Link app is a software version of the device of the same name. The only exception is for subscriptions, for which Apple takes a 15 percent cut.

So that developers can not sidestep these fees, Apple demands that all purchases must be made through the App Store.

It's entirely possible, then, that Steam Link was blocked because it would have allowed gamers to make purchases through Steam from inside PC games. If indeed this goes against Apple's guidelines, then all other remote desktop clients should be banned, too.

KitGuru Says: This is an unfortunate turn of events for many iOS users like myself.
