Ford Is Resuming F-150 Pickup Production Following Supplier's Fire

Ford resuming F-150, Super Duty production on Monday

The fire on May 2 at Meridian Lightweight Technologies' facility in Easton Rapids, Mich. shut down the assembly line, creating a parts shortage for F-150 and Super Duty trucks. "The ramp-up time to full production is improving every day". Ford also plans to get Super Duty assembly back up and running on Monday in Louisville, Kentucky. "Thanks to their heroic efforts, we are resuming production of some of our most important vehicles ahead of our original targets".

The automaker said on Wednesday that work will restart Friday at the Dearborn Truck Plant.

Ford, along with BMW, Mercedes Benz and General Motors were forced to suspend or curb production at several USA plants while looking for an alternate source for components.

The No. 2 USA automaker also said production would resume on Monday at a second F-150 plant in Kansas City, Missouri, as well as its F-series Super Duty truck plant in Louisville, Kentucky. The company also suspended the building of its F-Series Super Duty trucks in Louisville.

While production of the F-150 was down for a week, Ford says they started working immediately after the fire.

Ford has said its financial results for the second quarter will take a hit, though the exact cost remains to be seen. Ford backed its full-year earnings guidance of $1.45 to $1.70 per share.
