   TRAGIC Former Premier League defender Jlloyd Samuel died in a car crash

Cheshire Police said it was called to a serious crash involving a van and a Range Rover in the village of High Legh shortly before 8am. The fire was too bad.

The Trinidad and Tobago Football Association and Samuel's former club sides were also among those paying their respects, with Villa players donning black armbands during their Championship play-off fixture against Middlesbrough on Wednesday night.

Former Aston Villa and Bolton defender Jlloyd Samuel died in a vehicle crash on Tuesday at the age of 37, Cheshire Police confirmed.

He switched allegiance to Trinidad and Tobago in 2009 and won two senior caps for the twin island republic.

"His next of kin have been informed and are now being supported by specially trained officers".

According to Telegraph football, Samuel was pronounced dead by paramedics while the van driver, a 54-year-old was rushed to hospital for treatment. One of them was Ashley Young, who played with Samuel at Aston Villa a while back.

After returning to England he became player-manager of Cheshire-based amateur team Egerton.

"Jlloyd leaves behind a family including a wife and four children who are devastated by their sudden loss".

Football players who knew Samuel took the chance to send condolence messages through social media.

"The family at this time respectfully request to be left alone so they can have time to grieve and mourn his passing".

"Such a good guy on and off the pitch and a truly good friend".

The Trinidad and Tobago FA said it extended its "deepest condolences" to Samuel's family members "both in the United Kingdom and here in Trinidad and Tobago".
