10 kids removed from California home; mom, dad deny torture

Jonathan Allen and Ina Rogers Solano County Sheriff's Office

State prosecutors said the children were subjected to waterboarding, shot with crossbows and had scalding water poured on them.

The abuse was detailed in a motion filed by prosecutors to increase the bail of the children's mother, 30-year-old Ina Rogers, who was ordered taken into custody and whose bail was set at $495,000.

A Northern California woman denied that she or her husband abused their 10 children after authorities said the kids suffered puncture wounds, burns, bruising and injuries consistent with being shot with a pellet gun. During a press conference with Lt. Hurlbut, she said she believes nine of the 10 children were abused, describing it as torture-intentional infliction of "extreme pain and suffering. for sadistic purposes". Once they introduced they youngster house, officers searched the residence "on account of considerations for the security and well being of the kid and the kid's siblings".

The missing 12-year-old was found sleeping under a bush nearby, but officers chose to contact the Solano County Child Welfare Office which removed the children from the house. Rogers did not enter a plea, but has previously denied allegations her children were harmed.

This is a developing story.

Jonathan Allen told a reporter, while in jail, that he not only loves his children, but he wants police to know that he's not an animal.

All her children were then taken into protective custody by Solano County Child Welfare services and placed in the care of other family members, with whom they remain.

On Wednesday, Rogers, who had been released on bail on neglect charges, was re-arrested and also charged with abuse, KGO reported.

"Fear set in. that my son was missing", she said. He is being held in lieu of $5.2 million bail.

Rogers says she home-schooled the children, but the Fairfield home was not registered as a private school and neither were three prior addresses in Fairfield and Vallejo, according to the California Department of Education.

Juarez alleges Rogers assisted in the abuse and "dissuaded the children" from reporting their injuries, which included broken arms.

Authorities had earlier described the abuse of the children as having a "sadistic objective", but they did not elaborate, the network reported.

In the six weeks since that arrest, police said, authorities have interviewed the eight older children and learned more disturbing details about their lives. Father Jonathan Allen, 29, has pleaded not guilty to multiple charges of torture and felony child abuse.

Hurlbut said the investigation revealed a "long and continuous history of severe physical and emotional abuse of the children".

Sharon Henry, chief deputy district attorney for Solano County, said she was "horrified" by their statements.

Neighbors in the cul-de-sac said they did not know how many children were living in the house as they were mostly kept out of sight, according to the San Francisco Chronicle. She called Allen a monster.

"We're a Christian family and Jonathan has not been raised that way", she said.

Rogers said the children slept in one bedroom because they were close; cots were stored in a bedroom closet. "He looks like a scary individual, and that's why people are so quick to judge him", Rogers told reporters.

She now faces nine counts of felony child abuse.

He told KCRA-TV from Solano County Jail on Tuesday that the children have been brainwashed into thinking they were abused.

"They were bullied and the teachers weren't helping me with their education", Rogers said.

Jonathan Allen and Ina Rogers were arrested on Monday in Fairfield, California.
