US Warns European Businesses on Sanctions If They Do Business with Iran

Iran hardliners lay out conditions for deal talks

Speaking on Sunday in Beijing, Mohammad Javad Zarif underlined Tehran's readiness "for all options" but expressed optimism that this round of negotiations could save the 2015 deal.

Changing the regime in Iran is "not the policy of the administration", Bolton said on ABC.

"The rationale for getting out of the deal is that it was contrary to American national security interests when we entered into it, and it hasn't gotten any better with age", Bolton said Sunday, citing what he believed to be the "fundamental deficiencies" with the deal, such as the economic benefits to Iran and ability to continue their nuclear and ballistic missile programs in a limited fashion. If they're going to see that it's not in their interest to stay in the deal; we're going to have to watch what the Iranians do.

Zarif held a "good and constructive" meeting with European Union foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini, adding that talks with the three European countries would continue in the next two weeks.

On May 8, US President Donald Trump announced that the US was walking away from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) which he described as a awful deal.

But European diplomats have sought to play down expectations of Tuesday's meeting, stressing the enormous challenge of finding a way around United States sanctions punishing foreign businesses trading with Iran, which have global reach.

The sanctions will target critical sectors of Iran's economy, including petrochemicals, energy and finance.

It is unclear how well the measure could be enforced, given that big multinationals are likely to be doing more business in the US than they are in Iran and may be unwilling to compromise that market access. That's up from 2.9 million barrels per day in January 2016, when the nuclear deal took effect. Kerry has suggested that the USA leaving the JCPOA would lead Kim Jong Un to conclude that any agreement reached with a United States president could be thrown out by his successor.

"But it really is a question mark as to what Europe can do for them in the face of ..."

Russian President Vladimir Putin and German Chancellor Angela Merkel spoke Friday and underlined their aim of preserving the deal and peace in the Mideast.

President Donald Trump delivered on his election promise of making America pull out of the Iran nuclear deal which was signed in 2015.

"Our trade with New Zealand is the importing dairy products from NZ, if they want to impose sanctions then they must ban the companies from exporting the commodities to Iran".

Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has called the USA withdrawal "impudent" and "worthless".

"I heard one of the primary industry representatives postulating that it might mean, if nothing else, that it's more hard to increase exports to iran who, of course, used to be a much larger trading partner of New Zealand than they are even now", Mr Parker said.

The EU has said it will stick to the deal as long as Iran does, but the Islamic republic has warned it is ready to resume "industrial-scale" uranium enrichment if it is not satisfied.

During the call, Rouhani said the U.S. decision to withdraw from the deal was "unlawful" and "irresponsible".
