Teacher suspended over 'relationship' with boy, 17, is shot dead in driveway

DelTondo's engagement was called off a few months after she was caught in a steamed up car with a teenage boy

A Pennsylvania schoolteacher who was reported to have had a teenage boy in her vehicle and who was later suspended was shot to death in her mother's driveway on Mother's Day.

But the engagement was broken off, and months later, she was the victim of confidential information leaked from the Aliquippa Police concerning her and a former student. Dan Casper, a family neighbor, told CBS News: "I don't know why that happened".

It is speculated that DelTondo knew her assailant, but neither the district attorney nor local police are commenting on the investigation.

Rachael DelTondo, 32, was standing on her mother's Buchanan Street driveway, in Aliquippa, Beaver County, on Sunday when she was killed in a hail of gunfire. The incident allegedly occurred in February 2016, and DelTondo was found with the student in a parked vehicle at 2:00 a.m. near Aliquippa hospital.

Ms DelTondo was suspended last November from the Pennsylvania Cyber Charter School.

A family member said DelTondo was returning home from getting ice cream with a friend and was shot as she got out of the auto.

Police noted that 'the windows were steamed over and the engine was not running'.

The County Coroner's Office for Beaver County has ruled that the death was definitely a murder and that she died as a result of multiple gunshots to the chest. When asked, DelTonto said that she was "just talking" to her former student, who was "upset and needed someone to talk to". School officials only found out about the incident in October 2017, and later learned that the teenager was never a student at PA Cyber.

No charges were filed against DelTondo over the incident, but the school became aware of the incident after being sent an anonymous email over the story this past October. A police report from 2016 said the two were found in a "steamed-up" parked auto around 2 a.m. "Prime of her life, and this is what happens", said neighbor Philomena Rossi.

The email included the police report and a note that DelTondo and the teen had a "relationship" over text messages and Snapchat messages.

CBS Pittsburgh met DelTondo previous year when she was the subject of a CBS Pittsburgh report as a bride-to-be in a dispute over her custom wedding dress. However, investigators have not revealed information about the case at this time.

But sources say it also prompted a state police investigation of the Aliquippa Police, and that DelTondo cooperated.

However, School CEO Brian Hayden said records show the teen was never a registered student at PA Cyber. "We have no additional information beyond what is being reported by local media", Hayden said in a statement. We express our sympathy to her family, friends, and coworkers.

After DelTondo's fiancé called off the wedding - after the alleged incident occurred, but before the alleged incident was made public - DelTondo reportedly attempted to purchase the $10,000 wedding dress that she'd put a deposit down on in order to resell it.

DelTondo reportedly contacted the bridal shop to tell them that she wanted to pay off the balance on the dress for resale, but she allegedly never received the dress.
