United Nations security attack stops inspectors entering Syrian town

Russia, Iran urged to 'stop playing games' in Syria

If the Syrian airforce can be removed and then the Russian airforce, then ISIS and the other Al Qaeda affiliates and salafists out to exterminate all Christians, Allawites, Shi-ites and other non fundamentalist Sunni sects in Syria, will have a much free-er hand on the ground.

It prompted a coordinated wave of missile strikes by the United States, France and Britain against regime targets.

Syrian state media reported Tuesday that inspectors from the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons had entered the town of Douma, but Syria's United Nations ambassador, Bashar Ja'afari, later said that only a United Nations advance security team had entered.

Global frustration is growing at the delays in allowing the investigators from the OPCW to gain access to the suspected site.

In response, the United States, France and Britain conducted missile strikes on Syrian military installations, but Paris admitted on Tuesday they were a matter of "honour" that had solved nothing.

An "official close to the Syrian government" told Reuters the hostile crowd that materialized at the first site was protesting the us -led airstrikes against Syria on Friday night.

Asked about the strikes and whether they "burnished" Mr Assad's image, Ms Pierce said: "I think it's exposed him as a suspected war criminal who gasses and attacks and bombs his own people with illegal weapons". He stressed, however, that Russian Federation would review the decision if the US attacked.

The strikes last week against Syria's chemical weapons arsenal were successful in degrading that country's chemical weapons, research and storage facilities, the Pentagon's chief spokesperson said today.

May defends British strikes in Syria against parliament critics
Theresa May has accused Russian Federation and Syria of trying to cover up a chemical attack which killed dozens last weekend. USA envoy to the OPCW, Kenneth Ward, said: "It is our understanding the Russians may have visited the attack site".

Due to the ongoing war in Syria, any chemical weapons inspection there, either for removal or destruction of its stockpiles, or for chemical weapons use allegations, requires heightened security.

The organization's inspectors have sought to gain access to Douma to collect evidence of chemical agents but were forced to turn back after coming under gunfire this week.

OPCW inspectors arrived in Damascus on April 14 and had planned to head to Douma, on the outskirts of the capital, on April 16. Medical workers said they treated symptoms including difficulty breathing and fainting.

According to the United Nations report, a security team traveled to two sites on Tuesday escorted by Russian military police.

The conclusion contrasts with the Trump administration's assertion that the strikes on Saturday hit at the heart of Assad's chemical weapons program, language suggesting that Assad's ability to stage more attacks had been dealt a devastating blow.

The spokeswoman for Russia's Foreign Ministry says Syrian troops found chlorine of German origin in the Eastern Ghouta region, which includes a town where a suspected chemical weapons attack prompted retaliatory missile strikes by the West on Syrian government targets.

Douma hospital workers who stayed in the town after the army recaptured it have said that none of the people injured on the night of the attack were exposed to chemical weapons.

Lavrov also said that he was confident that Russian President Vladimir Putin and U.S. President Donald Trump would not allow an armed confrontation between their two countries.
