Army Injures Two Palestinians In Northern Gaza

In stark contrast to what Gandhi sought

Thousands of Palestinians joined the fourth weekly protest on Gaza's border with Israel on Friday, some burning tires or flying kites with flaming rags dangling from their tails.

While Friday protests typically gain traction following noon prayers, the Gaza Ministry of Health reported in the morning that a Palestinian had been grievously wounded after being shot in the head east of Jabalia, in the northern West Bank. Israel's military said Thursday that it is ready for all scenarios and is "prepared to prevent any breach of Israeli sovereignty or damage to the border fence".

Hamas says the protests are aimed at breaking a crippling border blockade that was imposed by Israel and Egypt after the Islamic militant group overran Gaza in 2007, a year after winning Palestinian parliament elections. The man's death brings the total number of fatalities up to at leat 35 since March 30.

Hundreds of Palestinians started gathering near the border fence, demanding their internationally-guaranteed Right of Return.

Speaking on April 9 in the Israeli town of Sderot, near Gaza, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said: "We have one clear and simple rule and we seek to express it constantly: if someone tries to attack you - rise up and attack him". It accuses Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas, with whom it has fought three wars since 2008, of using the protests as cover to carry out violence.

South Africa: Ramaphosa leaves Commonwealth summit to deal with protests
South Africa's faltering economy has been a priority for Mr Ramaphosa since he took over from former President Jacob Zuma. The protesters, who were aggressive towards the media, said they want Mahumapelo to resign as the premier of North West.

According to Haaretz, overall, 969 Palestinians, including 20 women and 67 were under age 18 were injured in Friday's protests. The IDF will act against all attempts to damage the fence or any other IDF equipment.

Some 30,000 Palestinians take part in the first of the demonstrations on March 30, marking Land Day, for the 1976 Arab protests against Israeli plans to expropriate land. But the foundation said it "admires her humanity, and respects her right to publicly disagree with the policies of the government of Israel". Several Israeli communities are close to the border. Stones had been thrown at border guards and the Israeli troops fired on the demonstrators.

Israeli forces on Friday dropped leaflets in Gaza Strip from an aircraft warning Palestinian to avoid approaching its border fence ahead of expected protests slated for later today.

Although the main protest campaign is meant to be peaceful, Gazans have hurled stones and burning tyres near the border fence.

Earlier, the demonstration turned violent when the Israeli forces opened fire on the protesters, killing around 31 Palestinian and injuring hundreds.
