Mitchell's score was disqualified as Twin Galaxies was not able to find sufficient evidence proving that he had not used an emulator to achieve the milestone score, as opposed to a real Donkey Kong arcade cabinet.
But last Friday, Guinness World Records acted in accordance with Twin Galaxies's ruling by scrubbing Mitchell's records with the organisation, according to the gaming site Kotaku.
Mitchell, featured in the documentary The King of Kong, has always been considered a master of the arcade, having once held world records in Pac-Man and, of course, Donkey Kong, for which he was thought to be the first player to gain one-million points.
'80s gaming rockstar Billy Mitchell has recorded a short statement regarding the controversies of recent days, whereby his high score records on a selection of games were removed from Twin Galaxies, under suspicion of falsifying multiple Donkey Kong runs. In a new statement, the former King of Kong denied the charges against him, promising that his Donkey Kong scores are genuine and authentic. 'All the things that were happening at the time... like why he didn't come out and play me, and why he was inciting whose records were going to be authenticated and who's were going to be dropped.

An investigation was launched into the video footage taken of each of the high scoring games. "Everything will be transparent, everything will be available, I wish I had it in my hands right now, I wish I could hand it to you".
He says he will prove his innocence; "witnesses, documents, everything will be made available". You absolutely have my commitment to that.
While Twin Galaxies has not yet commented on Mitchell's statement, management and staff of the registry have many times stated that the integrity of the leaderboards is their biggest concern.
