Russian Federation proposed a resolution at the UN Security Council, facing an assured veto, "appalled" at the use of military force against a "sovereign government".
Their targets were core infrastructure of Assad's "clandestine" chemical weapons program, shoddily hidden from the worldwide community since a 2013 agreement ostensibly rid him of his entire stockpile, according to an intelligence document declassified by the French government and released in conjunction with the strike.
In response, Trump tweeted that while Russian Federation vowed to protect Syria against attack, "Get ready Russian Federation, because [attacks] will be coming, nice and new and "smart!". The event later became a symbol of the controversy as the war dragged on and resulted in the deaths of thousands of American troops and tens of thousands of civilian casualties.
"The Assad regime, Russian Federation and Iran have gone so far in the war against the Syrian people using all sorts of weapons, including chemicals". "The evil and the despicable attack left mothers and fathers, infants and children, thrashing in pain and gasping for air", he said. Under the agreement, it was agreed that the estimate was "1,000 tons of chemical weapons, including the blister agent, Sulphur mustard, and sarin nerve agent". The U.S. and other Western powers have blamed the suspected gas attack on Syrian President Bashar Assad, who is backed by Russian Federation and Iran.
All of the coalition missiles were fired from warplanes or naval vessels in the Red Sea, Persian Gulf and eastern Mediterranean Sea, hundreds of miles from their targets and out of range of Syria's antiaircraft batteries.
United Nations Ambassador Nikki Haley said Saturday that the US was "locked and loaded" if Syrian President Bashar al-Assad used chemical weapons against his own people again. The airstrikes, she insisted, also do not represent a change in US policy. The U.S. war there dragged on for eight more years. "This is hard to do in a situation like this", he said, in light of the volatility of chemical agents.
It wasn't yet clear whether Syria had pre-emptively trucked away any of its chemical weapons or production equipment from the three facilities targeted by the USA - one near Damascus and two around the city of Homs - after Trump repeatedly warned in tweets last week that airstrikes were coming.
But Dr Basirini said he did not expect it to make a real difference. At a Pentagon news conference alongside Mattis, and with British and French military officers beside them to emphasize allied unity, Dunford said the attacks targeted mainly three targets in western Syria.
Washington described its targets as a centre near Damascus for the research, development, production and testing of chemical and biological weapons, a chemical weapons storage site near the city of Homs, and another site near Homs that stored chemical weapons equipment and housed a command post. But while more targets were hit and more missiles fired this time around, it won't alter the fundamental dynamics of the grinding, seven-year-long conflict, which has left hundreds of thousands dead, nearly all as a result of nonchemical weapons of war. One facility targeted is in the capital of Damascus, while two others are near Homs, close to the border with Lebanon.
Foreign Office Spokesperson Dr Muhammad Faisal in a statement said Pakistan condemned the use of chemical weapons anywhere by anyone. "This is not about intervening in a civil war". Damascus is still permitted to have chlorine for civilian use, although its use as a weapon is banned. An already difficult battle plan - which required hitting Assad without provoking Russian reprisals or injecting the US further into Syria's seven-year civil war - was getting harder.
"Clearly the Assad regime did not get the message previous year".

The air campaign could frustrate those in Trump's base who oppose military intervention and are wary of open-ended conflicts. But state TV focused on criticizing the West for acting on the basis of what Moscow called a faked chemical attack.

Vice President Mike Pence, in Peru for a meeting of regional leaders, said "there will be a price to pay" involving military force if Syrian chemical weapons are used again.
Faysal Itani, a scholar at the Atlantic Council, said that even if the USA -led strikes prevented new chemical attacks, it would not change Assad's larger strategy or halt his ongoing conventional assaults on rebel-held areas.
Since 2015, Syria has benefited from the support of Russian Federation under President Vladimir Putin.
"If the Syrian regime uses this poison gas again, the United States is locked and loaded", Ms Haley said.
US President Donald Trump has talked with French President Emmanuel Macron and British Prime Minister Theresa May on phone over the three nations' collective strikes on Syria.
"We have seen as a pattern in the world today is actors who behave in a reprehensible manner, then can be quite clever in trying to muddy the waters and in trying to dodge responsibility", she added. In his nationwide address, Trump stressed that he has no interest in a longtime fight with Syria.
In his nationally televised speech Friday night, Trump told Americans that the US had to respond. "And great warriors they are".
Syrian state TV called the attacks a "blatant violation of worldwide law and shows contempt for global legitimacy". But they haven't - so far at least. The latest USA -led operation was narrow in scope, with little damage done to Assad's war-fighting capabilities.
