Police called to hospital protest for terminally ill boy Alfie Evans

Merseyside Police said last night that they were at the protest outside Alder Hey Children's Hospital and said access to the hospital was being disrupted.

They say the court order would end at the point the hospital removes ventilation from Alfie, at which moment they will take over and fly him to Rome.

Legal advisors representing Alfie's parents said they will ask an appeals court judge to overturn at least one decision the court made at Monday's hearing.

This legal battle is occurring less than a year after the Great Ormond Street Hospital in London took baby Charlie Gard off of life support after a similar struggle with his parents who wanted him to try an experimental treatment for his rare genetic condition.

He said: "There's no court order to say Alfie has to stay in this hospital right now".

He added: "They have phoned the police over a child". The European Court of Human Rights has denied his parents' request in moving him to a hospital that will actually provide him care rather than removing his life support.

On Friday some protesters gathered outside the hospital, on East Prescot Road, with banners in support of Alfie.

They hope that specialists at Rome's Bambino Gesu Paediatric Hospital will be able to pinpoint what is wrong with their child.

UN Secretary-General warns Syria tensions could lead to "full-blown military escalation"
The US and France say they have proof it took place and, alongside the United Kingdom , are considering military retaliation. The White House says it is continuing to assess intelligence and talk to its allies about how to respond.

During the case, judges heard that Alfie, born on May 9 2016, is in a "semi-vegetative state" and has a degenerative neurological condition that doctors have not definitively diagnosed.

On February 20, after a seven-day hearing, Mr. Justice Hayden concluded, "I am satisfied that continued ventilatory support is no longer in Alfie's interests", and that maintaining Alfie alive on a ventilator would compromise his "future dignity", mirroring the conclusions reached by Alder Hey Childrens' Hospital.

The words "Christian Legal Centre" can be seen at the top of the letter.

"I have a documentation saying that I have the right to take my son out of this hospital", Evans says in the video.

"Alder Hey have phoned the police to stop me from taking my son out of the hospital. Look at my healthy, healthy young boy who is undiagnosed, who is certainly not dying", he said.

His parents want to transport his care from Alder Hey to a Rome hospital.

You have asked me to clarify whether it would be legal for you to remove your son Alfie from Alder Hey Hospital without the Hospital's consent.

The lawyers representing Alfie's parents, the Christian Legal Centre, released a statement this afternoon saying that the toddler's life support can not be turned off until the appeal is heard on Monday, April 16. The judge described Alfie's life as "profoundly unfair" but accepted medical evidence that showed further treatment was futile.
