Over 1000 children abducted by Boko Haram since 2013

At least 1000 children in Nigeria abducted by militant group since 2013: UNICEF

In commemoration of the Chibok abduction anniversary, parents of the abducted schoolgirls and the community at large have called on the Federal Government to help in the release of the remaining girls.

Boko Haram released 82 of the school girls last May in exchange for five of its top commanders.

The statement read thus: "It is unfortunate that four years after, all of our daughters have still not been accounted for".

There are about 100 girls left in Boko Haram captivity after the escape and release, through negotiation, of over 150 others.

Buhari said the return of so many students from Dapchi and Chibok "should give confidence that all hope is not lost" and showed the government was "doing its very best".

The women took their numbers on Saturday morning in a procession around the school where the girls were abducted four years ago.

He said given the experience of Sharibu, Chibok parents were anxious whether the remaining Chibok girls were being held back due to their faith.

The girls are part of the over 270 schoolgirls kidnapped by the terrorists in 2014.

The BJP MLA maintained that he was being framed, and told the police, "When there is an arrest warrant, call me". Since the murder charge was added later by the police, it does not reflect in the central probe agency's FIR.

In a statement released on the eve of the April 14, fourth anniversary of the kidnap of over 200 schoolgirls in Chibok, Borno State, the United Nations agency also said more than 1,000 children had been abducted and 1,400 schools destroyed by the terrorists in the region since 2013.

"The parents were crying bitterly when they saw the Dapchi girls being released by Boko Haram".

"What happened in Chibok should have served as a wake-up call to the Nigerian government. Sadly no representative was sent to attend the event, except the officials of the local government council who are here with us".

Mr Danladi was one of those that once offered both medical and psychosocial support to the parents of the abducted girls.

"We know that this is not the news parents want to hear after four whole years of waiting, but we want to be as honest as possible with you".

The Speaker also tasked the Executive arm of government on the release of Leah Sharibu, the Dapchi girl who was not released along with other abductees, reportedly for refusing to renounce her faith.

The President re-affirmed that the government remained focused and determined to see the girls return to their homes.

But he added: "We will continue to persist, and the parents should please not give up". "But that does not set aside the need for all of them to be rescued by government".
