Federal Bureau of Investigation probing Cohen's 'personal business dealings'

Michael Cohen personal attorney for US President Donald Trump

After weeks of news about President Donald Trump's difficulties in securing new legal help, he was represented in Manhattan federal court by a new lawyer.

President Donald Trump is fuming about what he says is abuse of attorney-client privilege after federal agents raised his personal attorney's office in NY.

The revelation that the Federal Bureau of Investigation obtained recordings during the raid comes a day after The Washington Post reported that some of Trump's allies were anxious that investigators may have seized recorded conversations between Trump and Cohen. He bought a building for $2 million at 172 Rivington Street in New York City in 2011 and sold it for $10 million three years later, according to property records.

Cohen "applied [Thursday] evening for an opportunity to take the first cut" at determining whether the documents are privileged or relevant to the investigation, Judge Kimba Wood said.

Cohen has been an ardent defender in Trump's business, personal and political affairs for more than a decade - Cohen claims to have used a personal home equity loan to pay the adult film actress, known as Stormy Daniels - and the probe's expansion into the president's inner circle left Trump fuming.

Trump's words to the press also come up.

He vented to allies that Mueller's investigators were "going too far" and conducting "their witch hunt" to undermine his presidency, according to two people familiar with the president's views but not allowed to discuss them publicly. McDougal now believes that Davidson was more concerned with Cohen and Trump's interests than her own. "He's uniquely situated to have interesting paperwork about the President". He has not responded to news he is under investigation, declining to comment when contacted by ABC News.

Elliott Broidy told RNC Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel on Friday afternoon that he was stepping down, a person familiar with the discussion said. Critics have said that if Trump tried to remove Mueller it would amount to interference in the investigation.

Referring to Trump, McKay said: "His attorney-client privilege is no stronger than anyone else who seeks legal advice".

They will be coming: US President Donald Trump's missile threat to Russian Federation
However Mrs May faces growing impatience from Washington , where President Donald Trump tweeted the missiles "will be coming". But she had also made clear the president was holding both Syria and Russian Federation responsible for the attack.

Mueller, of course, has an ace up his sleeve, since anything the Southern District team uncovers that relates to Russian Federation would be referred back to the special counsel's office anyway.

"I am unhappy to have my personal residence and office raided". "This is of most concern to him".

The dramatic F.B.I. raid executed Monday against Michael Cohen, the president's personal attorney, marks a turning point in the Justice Department's investigations into Donald Trump and his associates.

For federal agents to have searched Cohen's apartment, office, and hotel room, prosecutors must have convinced a judge that a raid was necessary to obtain evidence of a crime that Cohen might have attempted to hide or destroy if he was issued a subpoena. Only documents that are not protected by that privilege will be handed over to investigators.

In addition to the payment Cohen has said he made to Daniels, there's another payment to Karen McDougal, a Playboy playmate who was paid US$150,000 in 2016 by the parent company of the National Enquirer, under an agreement which gave it the exclusive rights to her story, which it never published.

Mr Cohen could be found to have broken campaign funding laws if a court decides the impending election was the motivation for the payment.

"Michael Cohen was in every single meeting I attended before the campaign", Caputo said.

Cohen has not been charged with anything. We're going to be as user friendly as possible.

A group of 10 representatives evenly split between Republicans and Democrats said the report raised concerns that the Federal Bureau of Investigation officials didn't exhaust the agency's technical options "precisely because they wanted the suit against Apple to go forward". "This is not happening because they want to see billing records for some client back in 2009".
