Senior Congress leaders attend the plenary sess

They also met Congress President Rahul Gandhi and his mother Sonia Gandhi on the sidelines of the plenary session at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium. The proposal was adopted with a consensus by raising of hands.

Union minister Jitendra Singh took a swipe at the Congress today, saying it was perhaps for the first time in the world that a political party was dancing and singing at the outcome of an election, unmindful of the fact that its candidates had lost their security deposits. Earlier in the day, Gandhi had said that people accepted a murder accused as the BJP president while they would not have done so if it was the Congress chief.

At the Congress plenary session in the capital, party president indicates he won't be afraid to hurt senior leaders; puts the focus on the youth.

The Congress on Saturday expressed its willingness to ally "with all like-minded parties" with a "pragmatic approach" to defeat the Narendra Modi government in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections with party chief Rahul Gandhi stating that the country was feeling exhausted and seeking a change.

Interestingly, during the last two days of the plenary, the dais was kept empty, whereas normally it is full of senior leaders. Terming the BJP's policies as "extreme right-wing", the Congress also tried to draw a line of difference with the party's economic, foreign and development policies.

He further added that the BJP and the RSS want to damage the pillars of democracy. "Like the Kauravas, BJP and RSS are created to fight for power". This result owed to two main factors: the Congress sought to build social coalitions as well as a minor political one, and it gave tickets to grassroots workers.

Mr Gandhi clearly noted that the country will "punish" the Congress if the party was seen only to be making a "grab for power".

A prominent leader from the Rahul Gandhi camp and Kerala legislator, VD Satheeshan, who spoke after Chidambaram, called for a relook into the liberalisation policies.

The sources said the party will also distribute literature and five books each on jobs and youth, SCs and STs, the economy, national security and corruption.

The Congress on Sunday attacked the Modi government saying that the economy was in the hands of "ignorant and incompetent policy makers" who have derailed growth through "reckless and freakish policies". UP has shown that over and over again, and as the BJP now knows, but the Congress seems to have forgotten, the key to Parliament is still held by India's poorest and largest state.

Reacting to Gandhi's remarks, information and broadcasting minister Irani tweeted, "Rahul Gandhi's hatred for India is astonishing".

In the education sector, he said the congress would set up institute's of the standards of I ITs and IIMs across the country, .
