United States Air Force identifies seven killed in Iraq helicopter crash

Lt. Christopher Raguso Fire Marshal Christopher ‘Tripp’ Zanetis

Moody Air Force Base announced Saturday night that an airman died in a helicopter crash in Iraq on March 15.

A U.S. military HH-60 Pave Hawk helicopter, a Black Hawk variant, has crashed in western Iraq near the border with Syria, according to multiple United States defense officials. The airmen were supporting Operation Inherent Resolve.

Weber was a Combat Rescue Officer assigned to the 38th Rescue Squadron. A Pentagon statement said the crash involved a Sikorsky HH-60 Pave Hawk and did not appear to be a result of enemy activity. He was an HH-60G special missions aviation flight engineer.

Staff Sgt. Dashan Briggs was a fulltime military member who previously deployed to Afghanistan, Texas and the Caribbean for Hurricanes Harvey and Irma. He previously served in Afghanistan as a munitions system specialist with the 106th Maintenance Group, and completed missions in Texas and the Caribbean following Hurricanes Harvey and Irma past year. He was a flight engineer in the Air National Guard, a lieutenant with their department and in the FDNY. O'Keeffe was an HH-60G Pave Hawk pilot and a full-time federal civilian employee.

Captain O'Keeffe had previously been deployed to Iraq three times, as well as serving in Afghanistan, the Horn of Africa, and Texas during Hurricane Harvey. Fire Marshal Zanetis was a resident of Long Island City and 10-year veteran.

He was a full time military member and has previously been deployed to Afghanistan, to Texas for Hurricane Harvey and to the Caribbean for Hurricane Irma.
